Where Westside starts and stops
Westside is the stretch of Gary between Clark Road and Cline Avenue. The Norfolk Southern tracks run along the north side, with Brunswick beyond them. 25th Avenue marks the south edge. Clark Road is the east edge and the line with Tolleston. Past Cline Avenue on the west is Hammond, starting with Hessville.
The Burr Street exit of the Borman is where Westside meets Black Oak to the south.
Roads we use for Westside pickups
- 15th Avenue crosses the neighborhood east to west and has a few businesses.
- Burr Street runs north and south, with apartments along it and the I-80/94 interchange at its south end.
- Clark Road is the east edge, also with apartments.
- 25th Avenue and Colfax Street meet at a small shopping node in the south.
- Cline Avenue (State Road 912) is the industrial corridor on the west side.
What Westside looks like
A lot of Westside's land is industrial or institutional: trucking yards and other operations along State Road 912, plus a landfill, according to the city's 2008 plan. Gary's 1964 plan had marked the whole area for industry, and housing went up in separate tracts anyway. The result is homes clustered in the northeast and the south, with open and industrial land between them.
Seberger Park, about eight acres, sits near the southwest corner. Hovey Playground is another city park. West Side Leadership Academy, the former West Side High School, is here too.
Pickup notes for Westside streets
- Say what the car is standing on. Houses near the industrial side often have long side yards or gravel pads. Pavement, gravel or grass: tell us which.
- Give a cross street near Burr. Truck stops sit around the Burr Street interchange, so "Burr and 15th" beats "near the expressway."
- Apartments on Burr and Clark. If the car is in a parking lot, tell us which building and whether the lot is gated.
- Missing parts are fine. A car that lost its converter or its wheels while parked can still be sold. Tell us what's gone.

Tolleston shares Clark Road with Westside, and Brunswick shares the tracks. The West Gary blocks page lays out all four.
Catalytic converter theft can leave a parked car not worth fixing. If that's your situation, read the fix-or-sell note first.
